Most people visit Hokkaido for its legendary seafood and vast flower fields, but if you’re looking for a truly local experience in 2026, you must visit Nasu Sunflower Field. This is not your typical tourist farm; it is a labor of love owned by an individual, Mr. Nasu, who started the farm for his own pleasure.

Toggle200,000 Sunflowers Dancing in the Sun
Spanning 3 hectares, this field features roughly 200,000 sunflowers that create a vibrant yellow horizon as far as the eye can see.

Because sunflowers always face the sun, the best time for photos is in the morning. It remains a top “Instagrammable” spot due to the lack of crowds and the stunning contrast between the yellow blooms and the deep blue Hokkaido sky.

The owner is famous for his kindness. Because he grows these as a hobby, he often invites visitors to cut a few sunflowers and take them home for free so they don’t wither away in the field! It’s a generous gesture that you won’t find at the larger commercial parks.
Pro-Tips
- Best Time to Visit: The peak bloom is expected from late July to early August.
- Be Prepared: If you hope to take flowers home, we recommend bringing your own garden shears and a small bag with a damp paper towel to keep the stems fresh during your drive.
- Sunagawa Sweets Road: Since the farm is in Sunagawa, make it a full day trip by visiting the nearby Sweets Road for some famous Hokkaido cream puffs or the Kurose Lavender Field which is just a short drive away.
