Cherry Blossom Season in Hiroshima 2025! Recommended Hanami Spots and Estimated Blooming Time

The highland city of Sera-cho, located in the eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, is known as the “City of Flowers” due to its many beautiful spots where various flowers can be enjoyed.

With blossoms blooming throughout the seasons, this city remains a breathtaking destination all year round.

In Hiroshima, enjoying cherry blossoms is not limited to parks—whether during the day or at night, in the mountains, or on remote islands, there are many options to choose from.

The pink cherry blossoms set against the blue waters of the Seto Inland Sea and lush green islands create a uniquely captivating Hiroshima landscape, making your hanami (cherry blossom viewing) experience even more memorable.

Here are six recommended spots to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Hiroshima, along with their expected blooming periods so you won’t miss out.

1. Sera Kogen Farm

With an area three times the size of Tokyo Dome, Sera Kogen Farm features four themed flower gardens where seasonal flowers bloom magnificently throughout the year.

As one of Hiroshima’s most iconic flower-viewing locations and one of Japan’s most famous flower fields, this is a must-visit spot during cherry blossom season.

The sakura season this year runs from Saturday, March 22 to Sunday, April 6.

The farm is adorned with magnificent weeping cherry blossoms cascading over a 30,000-square-meter hill like a pink waterfall.
These flowers bloom alongside golden canola flowers, creating a stunning contrast perfect for capturing in photographs.

2. Sera Kozan Koryu no Sato

Sera Kozan Koryu no Sato is a sakura-dedicated park scheduled to open from March 20 to late April this year.

The park features one of Japan’s best weeping cherry blossom tunnels, where approximately 250 trees create a mesmerizing pink floral corridor.

When a gentle breeze blows, the sakura petals fall like a shower of blossoms, creating an enchanting scene.

Besides weeping cherry trees, the park also has Somei Yoshino and Yaezakura varieties that bloom in succession.

With three spacious fields, visitors can sit under the cherry blossoms and enjoy hanami bento available on-site.

3. Imakoyasan

Located in Sera-cho, Imakoyasan is a sacred Buddhist site founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi).

This 1,200-year-old temple transforms into a breathtaking cherry blossom destination during the blooming season.

In 2025, cherry blossoms are expected to start blooming on April 1.
At the main gate, visitors are greeted by a pathway lined with cherry trees.

As the petals fall, they create a pink carpet, adding a serene and mystical ambiance.

The blend of cherry blossoms with the temple’s ancient architecture not only pleases the eyes but also provides a sense of spiritual tranquility.

4. Senkoji Park

Besides serving as the start and endpoint of the Shimanami Kaido, Senkoji Park is a must-visit spot in Onomichi City.

During cherry blossom season, 1,500 cherry trees of various types bloom along the hillsides, creating a stunning floral landscape.

This makes the park one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots.

Cherry blossoms are expected to begin blooming on March 28, reaching full bloom by April 3.

Taking the ropeway to the newly renovated PEAK observation deck at the top of Mount Senkoji provides a fresh perspective of the Onomichi Strait and the port city below.

5. Ueno Park

Located in Shobara City, northeastern Hiroshima, Ueno Park is famous for its night-time cherry blossom illumination.

Around 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom around Ueno Pond, creating a mesmerizing mirror effect on the water’s surface.

At night, paper lanterns illuminate the cherry blossoms, creating a dreamlike scenery.

This year, cherry blossoms are expected to begin blooming on March 29, with peak bloom around April 3.

Standing at 311 meters, Fudeageyama is home to 2,000 Somei Yoshino cherry trees, making it a vibrant hanami hub in spring.

Nearby, Ryuo-san (elevation: 445 meters) features centuries-old Edo Higan cherry trees at Kojin Temple.

The best time to visit is late March to early April.
For a safe and convenient trip, Mihara City offers tourist taxi services from JR Mihara Station.
