Matcha is one of the most popular beverages in Japan, loved by locals and foreigners alike; there is something satisfying about enjoying a freshly-made cup. The Japanese are quite particular about matcha, and in this feature, we introduce The Matcha Tokyo, a café in the cool neighborhood of Omotesando.
The Matcha Tokyo
The café is located on a quiet backstreet of Omotesando. You can see all the items on the menu at the entrance.

The warm and welcoming space features a large table displaying various tea utensils. Take your time and look at each item carefully.

These are measuring spoons for tea. Each aspect of the store is well thought out.

An iron teapot, similar to those used in a traditional teahouse for a tea ceremony, is used to heat the water.

Service and Products
You can sit down and enjoy your matcha or choose to do a takeaway.

The tea is made in a ceramic tea bowl, and then poured into a paper cup.

You can watch the staff whisk your matcha.

We chose a latte; it wasn’t too bitter, which is notable as the matcha is cultivated organically.

You can also buy tea-flavored candies.

And beautifully packaged tea leaves in cans and bags.

All of these are great for souvenirs.

These individually wrapped tea bags are easy to carry while traveling and are a popular item.
