The Dreamy Delicacy “Slime Jelly Cake” Returns After Two Years

The mobile game “Dragon Quest Walk” is an augmented reality experience that uses Google Maps and location technology, allowing players to visit real-world landmarks to complete special missions. Players can earn in-game items called “souvenirs” (おみやげ) for completing these tasks. In 2022, the game collaborated with the long-established Japanese sweets shop Aoyagi Sohonke in Nagoya to create the real-life “Slime Jelly Cake.”

After a two-year break, this delightful treat is returning for a limited time. Each box will again feature three flavors: a classic slime-themed jelly cake, a special orange-flavored slime base, and a kiwi-flavored lime slime.

The Slime Jelly Cake is not only cute but also has a chewy texture that adds to its charm.

A Century-Old Japanese Sweets Shop X Popular Mobile Game

Established in 1879, Aoyagi Sohonke is a traditional sweets shop in Nagoya that originally focused on making yokan (a type of jelly) and later expanded to produce jelly cakes. Uirou, a steamed cake made mainly from rice flour and sugar, features a soft, smooth, and mildly sweet texture. In 1922, Aoyagi Sohonke’s jelly cake won the Effective Improvement Award at the Tokyo Expo and became an official product of the Imperial Household Agency, establishing itself as a signature specialty. It is also featured in “Dragon Quest Walk” as a souvenir available at the game’s landmark, Atsuta Shrine.

To increase awareness of Nagoya’s jelly cake, Aoyagi Sohonke collaborated with “Dragon Quest Walk” to create the “Slime Jelly Cake.” Through the appealing design inspired by the popular mobile game, they aim to provide customers across Japan with a delightful experience when enjoying their jelly cake.
