The World of Kawaii: Making Your Own Squishies in Harajuku

Have you heard about Squishies? People of all ages, from children to adults, are captivated by these tactile toys designed to improve your mood. Known as “Squeeze” in Japan, they are the perfect cute distraction for anyone needing a little stress relief.

While many tourists buy Japanese souvenirs for their loved ones, why not create a few custom squishies for your friends and family? In 2026, there are several places in Tokyo where you can craft your very own stress-buster. Notably, the Japan Squishy Association, which opened in Harajuku in 2018, continues to be a premier destination for fans.

The Crafting Experience

Check out the video to get an idea of how fun and easy it is to make a squishy.

There’s your finished fun toy!

You can pack it in a transparent case and it almost looks like a real donut, doesn’t it?

The time it takes for the paint to dry is one day. It’s so tempting to touch it, right? But please be patient!

You can also decorate a slice of bread dipped in milk which is made by the famous squishy brand BLOOM and sold at MOOSH, a squishy store in Harajuku. If you’re lucky, you might get in without a reservation but to avoid waiting, it is best to make a reservation.

MOOOSH also sells cute character squishes; of course, you can get a feel for them before buying any.

Why do not you make your own squishy in the capital of Kawaii, Harajuku, or buy these as a souvenirs for someone?
