Tulips in all the possible colors you can imagine at the Hitachi Seaside Park

The Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture is most known for its sprawling nemophila-covered hills, but in spring, it is also home to about 2.5 million tulips, offering an equally stunning spectacle. The park is an ideal one-day getaway from Tokyo.

Tamago no Mori: A Riot of Color

The tulip display is primarily located in an area called Tamago no Mori (たまごの森, Egg Forest). Here, you can see plenty of tulips in a massive variety of shades, from vibrant reds and yellows to subtle pinks and whites.

Atmosphere: Nestled under the greenery of massive trees, your eyes will be dazzled by the riot of color.

Photo Opportunities: The flowers create a beautiful, diverse backdrop for photos and are a major hit among couples and families.

Other Blooms: You can also see roses, lavender, and narcissus blooming in adjacent areas, depending on the exact timing of your visit.

This area is quite close to the main gate, which makes it very popular and easy to access upon entering the park. The best time to see the tulips is typically from mid-April to mid-May.

Navigating the Park

The best way to navigate through the park is by using the rental bicycles available at 500 yen for three hours, 700 yen for a whole day.

Another option is to take the sea side train, which costs 700 yen for a day, but the queues can be exhausting.

No matter when you visit, you’re bound to see crowds during the peak spring season. However, make sure to avoid visiting during the Golden Week holidays (late April/early May) for a less intense experience.
