Juri Kosaka, Rising Actress in Japanese Drama Mikami Sensei, Is Also a Popular Model!

The 2025 winter drama Mikami Sensei, starring Tori Matsuzaka, stands out as one of the most unique school dramas this season. It offers a fresh perspective by shedding light on the darker sides of the education world.

Among the talented young cast playing the students is Seventeen magazine’s exclusive model, Juri Kosaka. Her standout performance quickly caught the audience’s attention. She clearly has the potential to become a major star—definitely someone to watch!

Juri Kosaka Profile

Born on July 14, 2005, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, Juri Kosaka has been active in talent competitions and modeling since junior high school.

As a high school freshman, she auditioned for the Seventeen teen fashion magazine model search for the fourth time—and finally made it, beating out 3,553 other applicants.

She appeared at the Seventeen Summer School Festival 2021 with four other winners (Aoi Ichinose, Ayana Kasai, Minori Taira, and Mizuki Morisaki). Since then, she has grown into a popular teen model and a role model for many young girls.

After becoming an exclusive model for Seventeen, Juri challenged herself in the acting world. In 2021, she made her acting debut in the LINE NEWS drama Sorazora. A year later, she landed the lead role in the short drama VISION (Sayonara Kawai Nattara).

In 2023, she starred alongside Taizo Harada in the NHK special drama The Menstrual Man and His Daughter (Seiri no Ojisan to Sono Musume). Her innocent, natural, and charming acting captivated many viewers.

My Beloved Flower

The Japanese drama My Beloved Flower (いちばんすきな花) delicately explores whether men and women can truly be just friends, and the sense of alienation felt by those who struggle to find compatible partners.

A central character, Midori Shiki (played by Rena Tanaka), serves as the link between the four main leads. In the second half of the story, which focuses more on Midori, the earlier hints and details start to come together.

Juri Kosaka appears in episode 8, playing the younger version of Midori during her junior high school years. With her rebellious gaze, sharp expression, natural aura, and pure charm, she instantly drew attention online and captured viewers’ hearts with her beauty.

Billion × School

Billion × School (ビリオン×スクール) is a wacky and absurd school comedy drama.

The main character, Rei Kagami (played by Ryosuke Yamada), is the CEO of a massive business empire, the Kagami Group. He’s a billionaire and a genius inventor. To support his research project, he goes undercover as a high school teacher to gather data.

In this drama, Juri Kosaka plays Himeka Umeno, a transfer student who joins class 3-0 voluntarily. She appears in episode 2 as a model student with glasses who becomes a victim of bullying—a role that suits her perfectly!

Mikami Sensei

In Mikami Sensei (御上先生), the lead character, Takashi Mikami (played by Tori Matsuzaka), is a top bureaucrat from Japan’s Ministry of Education and a graduate of the University of Tokyo.

He’s assigned as the homeroom teacher for class 3-2 at Rintoku Private High School under a new placement system.

Mikami steps into the classroom to inspire 18-year-old students in the Reiwa era—encouraging them to stand up against injustice and power, and to spark a new chapter in the education system.

Juri Kosaka plays Haruka Shinonome, a class 3-2 student with a key role in episodes 3 and 4. Her sincere performance, filled with quiet strength and determination, left a strong impression on viewers.

In 2025, Juri Kosaka will turn 20, and acting offers continue to roll in. She sees her role in the TBS drama Mikami Sensei as a major turning point in her acting career.

Landing the role through auditions and being selected as one of 29 student cast members filled her with both excitement and nerves.

The experience deepened her love for acting. Juri now dreams of starring in an NHK morning drama (Asadora) someday. She cherishes every opportunity to grow and refine her craft.
