ToggleNot a Toy Store, but a Cake Shop: Welcome to “SpielKuchen”

Nestled on a quiet residential street in Osaka’s Ikuno Ward, this unassuming little storefront makes it hard to guess what lies inside at first glance. Step inside, and you will find no display cases or counters—just a single gachapon machine.
Despite its minimalist setup, “SpielKuchen” is a bona fide pastry shop. Its innovative concept? Serving handcrafted cakes sealed directly inside oversized gachapon capsules!

Unlike typical toy capsule dispensers, this machine has been custom-engineered with a built-in refrigeration unit to ensure every cake stays perfectly chilled and fresh.

SpielKuchen is open only three days a week—Thursday through Saturday—from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. However, if the day’s batch sells out early, the shop closes its doors for the day, so visiting earlier in the afternoon is recommended!

Gourmet Fruit Cakes for Just a 500-Yen Coin

Everything dispensed from the machine is priced uniformly: a single ¥500 JPY coin earns you one turn at the dial and one delightful capsule cake.

SpielKuchen’s creations are not just eye-catching; they focus heavily on vibrant, fresh fruit pairings that change weekly. Rather than sticking to standard flavors, the shop constantly surprises customers with seasonal creations announced in advance on their Instagram page.

Past seasonal lineups have included refreshing pairings like crisp Japanese pear layered with sweet Shine Muscat grapes, as well as distinctive gourmet flavors like fresh fig.

For lucky visitors, the owner occasionally slips a few capsules marked “Rare” (レア) into the machine! If your capsule has this coveted label, you get a double-sized portion packed with extra cake and fruit!
■ Price: ¥500 JPY per capsule
When Playful Curiosity Meets Artisan Pastry
The idea for SpielKuchen was born out of a sudden stroke of inspiration when the owner thought, “Wouldn’t it be so much fun to sell cakes through a gachapon machine?”
The shop’s name reflects this lighthearted spirit, combining the German words “Spiel” (meaning play or game) and “Kuchen” (meaning cake). By blending the thrill of gachapon surprise mechanics with delectable bakery-quality sweets, SpielKuchen transforms buying dessert into a playful, joyful experience.
If you are traveling through Osaka, make a detour to Teradacho, drop in a coin, and see what delicious surprise rolls out!
