In April 2025, the World Expo will be held in Osaka, Japan, marking the return of the Land of the Rising Sun as the host after 20 years and providing Osaka with its second opportunity to host the event since 1970.
Enthusiastic readers must already be filled with excitement — so today, let’s take a closer look at the details!
What is the World Expo?

The World Expo, also known as the World’s Fair or International Expo, is a large-scale exhibition held to showcase cultural, technological, and industrial achievements from around the world. Ever since the first World Expo was held in Paris, France, in 1855, it has built a history spanning over 150 years.
At the World Expo, not only can you experience the cultural uniqueness and scientific advancements of various countries, but many nations also use this platform to demonstrate their national pride, promote their latest innovations, and present world-influencing products. With a dazzling array of exhibits, visitors are sure to be amazed and gain a deeper appreciation for the vastness and diversity of our world.
Where and When Will This World Expo Take Place?

In 2018, the Bureau International des Expositions held a vote in Paris, France, and Osaka emerged victorious in the fierce competition, becoming the host city for the 2025 World Expo.
The Osaka city government selected Yumeshima, an artificial island located at the westernmost point of Osaka, as the venue.
Yumeshima was originally part of the 1988 “Technoport Osaka” project, planned alongside two other artificial islands, Sakishima and Maishima, as the city’s new urban center. However, due to the burst of the economic bubble, development stalled.
In 2017, the Osaka government decided to revitalize the area, and after securing the right to host the World Expo in 2018, they designated Yumeshima as the main site, aiming to transform it into a brand-new international tourism hub.
The World Expo will run from April 13, 2025, to October 13, 2025, spanning a total of 184 days.
During this period, visitors traveling to Osaka can easily reach Yumeshima by train, shuttle bus, boat, or even bicycle, and take part in this spectacular global exhibition where countries from all over the world will gather!

What Can You See at the Venue?
The theme of the Osaka World Expo is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” (いのち輝く未来社会のデザイン). The venue will be divided into three main zones: the Pavilion World, the Water World, and the Green World, along with eight smaller sub-zones. Each area will feature exhibitions and a variety of interactive experiences that align with its specific theme.
In addition, the Expo will showcase three major landmark facilities: The EXPO Hall, which serves as the symbol of the venue; The EXPO National Day Hall, the gateway for international exchange, offering various dining areas and cultural events; And the Welcome Pavilion, designed to receive leaders from around the world.
Each of these structures carries its own symbolic meaning and adds even more brilliance to this grand event.
