Known as the largest event of its kind in the Greater Tokyo area, the “Fuji Shibazakura Festival” is held annually from mid-April to late May at the Fuji Motosuko Resort near Lake Kawaguchi in Yamanashi Prefecture.
During the festival, around 500,000 moss phlox (shibazakura) bloom at the foot of Mt. Fuji, creating a stunning, dreamlike scene that you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
In 2025, the Fuji Shibazakura Festival will run from Saturday, April 12th to Sunday, May 15th.
Seven Varieties of Moss Phlox Create a Spectacular Scene

Shibazakura comes in vibrant shades of pink, white, and pale purple. At the festival, the fields are primarily covered with the vivid pink “McDaniel’s Cushion,” along with six other varieties such as the soft pink “Autumn Rose.”
Stretching as far as the eye can see, the fields resemble a pink carpet that beautifully contrasts with the lingering snow on Mt. Fuji in the background, creating a breathtaking and immersive view.
Let’s take a sneak peek at the highlights of this year’s Fuji Shibazakura Festival!
Step into the Dreamlike World of the Peter Rabbit English Garden

This year, under the supervision and design of British garden designer Mark Chapman, the English garden brings to life the enchanting world of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, set against the backdrop of England’s Lake District!
The garden features around 300 varieties of plants and flowers, along with photogenic spots where you can take pictures with both Mt. Fuji and Peter Rabbit.
In addition, there’s the “Story Trail,” inspired by scenes from the picture books, allowing visitors to leisurely wander through the floral landscapes and immerse themselves in the storybook world.
