When you think of Hokkaido, great seafood and immense natural beauty usually come to mind. If you’re visiting in 2026 and want to avoid the typical tourist traps, there is a lavender field in Sunagawa that is still a local secret: Kurose Lavender Field.

ToggleThe “Hidden” Purple Hill
Located in Sunagawa City, this field is privately managed but open to the public for free. Spanning 1.3 hectares, it features over 15,000 lavender plants that create a stunning purple carpet overlooking the valley.

The best time to visit: Mid-July to late July. (Expect peak bloom around July 15–20).

The iconic red-roofed gazebo at the top of the hill is the park’s trademark. It offers a panoramic view of the Pinneshiri Mountains and is the perfect frame for your photos.

We highly recommend visiting in the late afternoon. The sunset view from the hill, with the city lights beginning to twinkle below, is truly breathtaking.

Support the Local Farm
While admission is free, there is a small shop in the parking lot selling freshly picked vegetables. In 2026, their Sunagawa sweet corn and tomatoes are highly recommended!
