Nagatoro is located in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, adjacent to Tokyo. Since it is easily accessible from Tokyo and makes for an effortless day trip, it is very popular on the weekends. Enjoying a traditional boat ride on the Arakawa River is a wonderful way to spend an autumnal day immersed in nature. In 2026, this “Line Kudari” experience remains a top recommendation for travelers!

Let’s Go!

The boat tickets and operations can vary seasonally depending on the water levels. After choosing your package, you may need to take a free shuttle bus to the designated starting point.

This time we chose the A package, so we had to take a special bus up to the starting point.

First you wear your life jackets on arrival and keep your luggage at your feet.

Get, set, go!

You can see strangely shaped rocky cliffs on both sides.

In some spots, the water gushes with force and this is where it gets most exciting.

If you’re lucky, you might even see a cute train chugging on the overhead railway bridge.

If you see someone holding a camera pointing towards you, don’t forget to smile. He is an official photographer waiting to capture your memory!

According to the river current, it takes about 15-20 minutes for a 3 km journey.

Each season has its own charms. During autumn, you can see the foliage turning to warm hues of yellow and orange, while in early spring, you can see wisteria dancing in the wind.
